Hypnosis is like when your teacher tells you to close your eyes and imagine you’re on a beach. You’re so relaxed and focused that you can almost feel the sand between your toes and the sun on your face. But unlike when you’re daydreaming in class, hypnosis is a special kind of daydreaming that can help you do cool things like stop biting your nails or speak in public without getting nervous.

It’s not magic or mind control like in the movies. The person doing the hypnosis (called a hypnotist) is just like a guide who helps you go into a special kind of daydreaming where your brain is more open to suggestions. Kind of like how a tour guide shows you around a new place, the hypnotist helps you explore your own mind.

When you’re in hypnosis, you’re still in control. You can still hear and talk, you can still move, and you can always say “no” to any suggestion you don’t like. It’s not like when you’re asleep or unconscious, you’re fully awake and aware of what’s going on.

Some people think that only weak-minded people can be hypnotized, but that’s not true. Anyone can be hypnotized, even super strong and smart people. It’s like how anyone can learn to ride a bike, play an instrument, or swim…
